Land Acquisition
Protecting our environmentally significant areas makes environmental sense, and provides economic and social benefits. For example: Mammals, birds, insects and plants require natural areas to survive; Publicly-owned natural areas play an important role in the physical and mental well-being of our population by making these lands available for passive recreational interests, such as hiking and bird watching. Providing water discharge into the Spencer Creek system benefits fisheries and downstream areas; Protecting natural areas greatly enhances the aesthetics of the new City; Green open spaces are the region's "lungs", which helps to offset the effects of air pollution; The protection of wetlands removes the need for costly flood control structures.
