Lafarge 2000 Trail

The 22-kilometre Lafarge 2000 Trail in Flamborough is located on the Middletown Road allowance.  The off-road section of this trail is now complete and features developed pathways along previously un-opened road allowances running in a north-south direction.  'On-road' sections are being developed along with appropriate signage.

For generations to come, this trail will offer users a unique opportunity to view the beauty and diversity of our region - from the steep slopes of the Niagara Escarpment and flat wetland areas to gorgeous rolling meadows and woodlots. This trail has a passive recreation focus on hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.

This trail links the Dundas Valley, Christie Lake, the provincially significant Beverly Swamp and Valens Conservation Area.  Other natural highlights of the trail include forest, hedgerows, five crossings of Spencer Creek, a crossing of Bronte Creek and access to environmentally significant areas including Donald Farm Complex, Hayesland Swamp, Strabane Southwest Drumlin Field, Westover Drumlin Field, Westover Lowland Forest, Beverly Swamp and Fletcher Creek.

The Lafarge 2000 Trail provides substantial and sustainable benefits, including recreation, fitness, economic, heritage, and education.  This trail also enhances the quality of everyday living for families, seniors, youth organizations and the handicap.  The Hamilton Conservation Foundation anticipates that this trail will attract tourists, and thereby generate revenues and possibly employment in the greater Hamilton.

You can help maintain this trail by making a donation to the Hamilton Conservation Foundation by calling 905-525-2181, ext 111 or by emailing jbell@conservationhamilton.ca.  For online donations, please choose the Trail Maintenance option in the Donate Now section of the Foundation's Canada Helps Donation page.

Lafarge Canada Inc., the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Millennium Bureau of Canada and the Strabane Optimist Club partnered with the Conservation Foundation in the development of this trail.  Without their generous financial support, this natural throughway would not have been possible.
